Zach LaVine Edges Aaron Gordon in Insane Slam Dunk Contest

Bob Donnan/USA TODAY Sports

There have been plenty of complaints about the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in recent years, but Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon delivered a show that puts this year’s iteration of the contest right up there with some of the bests. The duo traded three 50 dunks in the final round before LaVine took home the crown for the second year in a row with yet another 50:

Gordon’s final dunk was impressive as well, but he only earned a 47 from the judges:

While Gordon didn’t win, he had the dunk of the night:

LOOK AT THIS:

Will Barton and Andre Drummond were largely afterthoughts in this as LaVine and Gordon took over basically from the start. It looked like the young Timberwolves guard was going to cruise to a victory after his first dunk:

But luckily Gordon proved to be excellent foe. That was a whole heck of a lot of fun.

Here are the scores:

First Round

Will Barton 44, 30

Andre Drummond 36, 39

Aaron Gordon 45, 49 (Blame Shaq)

Zach LaVine 50, 49 (Blame Shaq)

Final Round

Gordon 50, 50, 50, 47

LaVine 50, 50, 50, 50
