Suns Fire 2 Assistant Coaches

Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek isn’t out of a job yet, but two of his assistant coaches have been let go, according to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The Suns announced the changes on Monday morning.

Top assistant Mike Longabardi and Jerry Sichting were the two coaches given their pink slips. This comes after news that Hornacek’s job is in danger, and while he’ll remain around for now, he could be next if things don’t improve in the near future.

Assistant coaches Earl Watson and Nate Bjorkgren will move into bigger roles, with Watson the likely interim head coach if Hornacek is fired.

These decisions came after Suns owner Robert Sarver and general manager Ryan McDonough met with players on Sunday in an attempt to understand why the season is going down the drain. Phoenix is 12-20 on the year and just lost to the Philadelphia 76ers, who had one win in 31 tries heading into the game between the two teams on Saturday.

Adding injury to insult, Eric Bledsoe needs surgery for a torn meniscus and will likely be out until around the All-Star break. Furthermore, the Markieff Morris situation isn’t getting any better, so Hornacek has a tall order ahead of him in order to keep his job.
