Paul George May Have “Swelling” in Left Leg

If you’re an Indiana Pacers fan and you follow Candace Buckner on Twitter, you might have seen a gulp-inducing Tweet cross your timeline last night: “1st thought: Paul George will need the AS break ASAP. Just last nite, he mentioned “swelling” (what?!) while pointing to left leg.”

That is the same leg that forced him to miss the majority of the 2014-15 season, but there’s no need to panic just yet. George didn’t sound too concerned, and he is likely just a little tired considering we are more than halfway through the season. Coach Frank Vogel has no intention of giving George any rest, so his owners can leave him in all active lineups.

You may recall that in the summer of 2014, in  a scrimmage game for Team USA, George had nasty, gut-wrench broken leg that was outright devastating. And whether you’re a fan of the Pacers, basketball, or just humanity in general, it’s been a great story to see George come from it over the last season and a half.

Last year, he played a few nominal game, but this year, he’s really rounded back into form and for a while was considered by many to be a leading candidate for MVP behind Stephen Curry. It was enough to get Geroge enough votes to start in the All-Star Game.

On the season, he’s averaging 23.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists. While his production has fallen off a smidge over the last month, if George is experiencing some swelling in his leg, that could go a long way toward explaining why. He’s also averaging 35.4 minutes, so if this is a problem, it might behove head coach Frank Vogel to rest his star a smidge more too.
