Durant to Golden State Rumors Begin

For years, Kevin Durant’s 2016 free agency has been one of the biggest events on the future NBA calendar. With that free agency now just a few months away, Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical reports that, if Durant is to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Golden State Warriors would be his most likely suitor.

Wojnarowski cites Golden State’s organizational togetherness and solid spiritual grounding as appealing factors for Durant. Consider the difference between the Warrior’s seamless transition between interim and permanent coach, in Luke Walton and Steve Kerr, compared to the surprise firing of David Blatt in Cleveland. Wojnarowski also acknowledges that the most likely outcome is that Durant returns to Oklahoma City instead of leaving for any other team, even one as talented as the Warriors.

Wojnarowski adds that the Lakers are a long shot for Durant’s services, but that the Clippers would be involved. A potential sign-and-trade could include Blake Griffin, Wojnarowski notes.

Bobby Marks of The Vertical also explored the steps that Golden State would have to take to free the cap space to sign Durant — a complicated sequence that would involve cutting Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut.
